Falling in Love With Pink

By Darlings Of Chelsea

It’s Valentine’s Day on Sunday, and with all the love in the air this weekend, I wanted to express my affection for what is set to be one of this year’s big colour trends: Pink. Taking over from Grey as the go-to shade for subtle sophistication, pale and dusky shades are going to be featured across walls, furniture and home accessories throughout 2016. Now, some people approach the idea of pink with some trepidation, worried it can be too sickly sweet and ‘girly’ in a way that doesn’t suit everyone. But it’s a great, versatile colour that deserves some love. So here are our tips on how to make this gorgeous on-trend colour shine in your home.

Where’s best to use Pink?

When you say ‘Pink’ most people immediately think of ‘princess’ playrooms and children’s bedrooms, which it certainly is well suited to, but there are ways to give it a grown-up edge and use it throughout the home. These light, easy-going pinks work really well in bathrooms, cupboards or utility spaces and they can give a really pleasant welcoming sense to hallways.

Pink is a delicate colour, especially in its paler forms, so keep the surrounding tones fairly neutral to prevent them from becoming too dominant – think natural hues of charcoal, stone and white, as well as natural textures such as wood. And, as last year proved, grey and pink can make a gorgeous combination.

What about using it for furniture?

Sofas look particularly great in pink, as you can see from our Olivia sofa upholstered in Extra Soft Brushed Cotton fabric in Blossom 76. These delightful pieces of furniture have a cosy, soft look to them whilst maintaining a mature, sophisticated sense of style. Easy on the eyes, they’re also easy to accessorise around, making them a great choice for your living room.

What about Accessories?

Pink is great for accessorising with. It can add a soft, warm edge as a rug or help to create a cosy inviting feel in throws and cushions. It’s also great for decorative accessories – try mixing with a few other pieces in materials that it complements like marble or on-trend metallics such as gold and brass, to create a charming and calming colour palette for your space.
