Great Christmas Decoration Ideas for Your Home

It’s that time again when our attention turns to Christmas decorations for our homes. There are many ways we can get into the festive spirit in this sense, so let’s explore some ideas for making your home feel as festive as possible.

Different Christmas decoration ideas

Christmas tree decorations are perhaps the most obvious of all the decorations available. It works well to choose a theme – this could be a colour or a particular style of decoration – and to replicate it throughout your home. Good examples are a gold themed tree or perhaps a tree featuring traditional decorations instead of modern ones.

Don’t forget the doors either – a classic wreath hanging on the front door is a good idea. But you can also add other garlands and wreaths inside your home, especially if they are fragranced with cinnamon, oranges and other seasonal aromas.

Wall decorations work well too. You can hang good quality tinsel from picture rails and drape it over photo frames; alternatively you could bring more greenery into your home if you have gone for a natural theme. Mistletoe and holly and ivy look sensational when used to their best effect for Christmas decorations.

Trends for 2012

The big trend for Christmas 2012 seems to be recycling. Not only can you recycle decorations from previous years to save money, you can also create your own home made decorations. These are great to give as gifts as well as to decorate your own home with.

For example, one idea we saw involved using old sheet music torn into strips to make a paper chain. There are plenty of recycled Christmas table decorations you can make too, such as by using old Christmas cards cut up and used as place settings.

handmade decorations

The great thing about recycling and upcycling (taking something and transforming it into something better) is that it doesn’t cost much money – if any at all. It also lends a personal touch to your Christmas decorations, which is always one of the best things you could possibly do. Enjoy your own festive decorating efforts this season!
