Although it is often overlooked, shelving can be so much more than simply a practical means of storing or displaying your possessions. It’s a great way to enhance the overall look and design of a room. So here’s our tips on things to think about when you’re considering your storage needs:
Shelves to Match Your Style
Don’t make it an afterthought, make it part of your design scheme. There’s so many gorgeous options for shelvings and display cabinets out there now, it’s easy to find some that will match with the look you’re going for. You could have floating shelves in a minimalist room, try our brass Aubrey shelving in a vintage glam room or silver Aubrey shelving in a modern Scandi-styled room, or a bookcase made from reclaimed wood for an industrial scheme.
The Beauty of Built-In Bookcases

Placing a bookcase wherever you’ve got some free wall/floor space is all well and good, but you can get so much more utility out of both your space and your storage if you look at creative places to include built-in shelving. This is great for making use of areas of space that might otherwise be lost or go unused, like over the doorframe, underneath the staircase or even in lieu of a traditional bannister.

And there’s no reason why shelves have to be plain and boring. Get creative with your thinking, why not make a statement with a shaped shelving unit or display cabinet, use as a tree-like bookcase in a nature-inspired space, or a lab bottle shelf in a child’s science-themed bedroom. You could also think about using unusual items that you could stack display pieces on, to give your look a more interesting edge – think ladders, stacked boxes or benches and pipes, rope or leather straps for wall/hanging shelves.
