Wallpaper – Back on Trend

By Darlings Of Chelsea

For a while, wallpaper fell firmly out of fashion. Paint was in and everyone was wielding a paint brush to get the decorative effect they wanted. However, now things have swung back in favour of wallpaper once again and it is firmly back on trend.

If you are thinking of redecorating one or more rooms in your home, it might be worth thinking about making a bold statement with your choice of wallpaper. Keep reading to find out more.

Wallpapers

If you’re thinking of hanging wallpaper on one or more walls in a particular room, you’ll be pleased to know there is an impressive range of wallpapers available from a whole host of sources.

The biggest tip to bear in mind when you get started is to look for as many sources of wallpaper as you can. Try your local DIY store; look online; explore magazines and websites that focus on home decoration. The more ideas you can get, the easier it will be to find that one design that will transform your chosen room.

Another great tip is to bring home samples with you when you spot wallpaper options you like in your local store. It is acceptable to tear off a piece of wallpaper so you can take it home and stick it to the wall where it will go. This will give you the ability to see how it looks in different lights and at different times of the day.

Wallpaper Designs

Plain, patterned, loud, subtle, textured, washable – wallpaper isn’t just wallpaper anymore! You’ve got an impressive selection of designs to choose from so it makes sense to decide what effect you are going for.

For example, some people like to run a border around the room, halfway up the wall. In this case, you’d normally put a striped paper at the bottom and a different but complementary design at the top. Alternatively, the feature wall is currently in vogue. This means choosing one wall to paper with an eye-catching print, while the other walls are painted to offset it.

Whatever design you choose, it is important to focus on your chosen colour scheme. You should know what colour will be prevalent in the room before you narrow down your wallpaper designs, so you are able to achieve the finished look you desire.

There are plenty of designer wallpapers around today as well, providing stunning designs from leading designers to bring a touch of class to your home.

If you decide to go for a designer look, remember to bring this into the room as a whole, rather than just opting for designer wallpapers. For example, stylish sofas can sit wonderfully with the right wallpaper, each item helping to accentuate the other.

This is why you must plan the entire room before settling on the wallpaper design of your choice. It makes life so much easier because you will have a firm end result in mind long before you set up that pasting table and get started.
