Designing the Bedroom of Your Dreams

The design of your dream bedroom is incredibly important. As we discussed in our post about sleep tips, making sure you create a space that's conducive to good, restful sleep can have a big impact on your well-being. But once you look beyond those practicalities, you're second consideration for this room is that it fits with you and your lifestyle. So we take you through some of the top looks for a chic, stylish bedroom.

1) Romantic Retreat Dream Bedroom

It's easy to create a space that is perfect for the two of you to retreat for some alone time. Whilst red seems the obvious colour to feature at least somewhere in the room, it doesn't have to - sumptuous deep shades of purple, blue, orange, perhaps even certain shades of green could work well. Low lighting will give the desired atmosphere, and candles are a given. The bed should be super comfy and cosy, preferably four-poster (there's just something romantic about four-poster beds, isn't there?!), as to entice you to spend as much time snuggled up in it as possible. Traditional elements, such as chandeliers and regency or victorian style furniture, can work well in this theme too.

2) Sultry Sanctuary

Mixing in boho chic and ethnic influences, think: pretty, cosy. Mix-matched cushions and throws are must-haves, whilst features like fairy lights and a delicate canopy over the bed really heighten the look. In terms of colour, keep it light and soft - a few bright bold colours can be mixed in with softer shades, but nothing too dark or heavy, particularly on the walls. A chic rug on the floor would complete the look, something like the Cleo rug from our collection.

3) Resort Chic Dream Bedroom

This room should be the height of plush luxury. We're talking a giant king-sized bed, with a snug mattress-topper, mountains of cushions and pillows (perhaps a few from our range), a silky throw across the end of your bed, low lighting, good quality black-out curtains or blinds to help you sleep in on sunny days, a flat-screen tv - possibly hidden, possibly in the end of your bed (you know the ones we mean). And feel free to do the ol' 'mint on the pillow' thing if you want.

4) Beachhouse Haven

This is a great scheme for the bedroom as the laid-back relaxed style of the look promotes the right atmosphere for the room and blue, generally one of the key hues for this kind of colour scheme, is considered a great shade for helping you feel calm and sleepy. Yellow is also a good choice for an accent, but keep it to pastel shades. Touches of the seaside such as shells, pebbles and the like are ideal for accessories, and furniture made from natural materials are ideal - if you can get something made from driftwood, even better.

5) Modern Minimalist Bedroom

A stripped back, sophisticated look, with white walls and furnishings. Keep decoration to little beyond the essentials, though the odd framed picture or splash of colour to create an accent are get finishing touches. You could even do away with the bed frame, placing the mattress straight on the floor, for that loft apartment look and feel - though you need a really good, supportive mattress for this work.
