If the interiors in your home are looking a little flat, a good way to freshen them up is to add different textures to space. And there are lots of ways to do it! Here are a few suggestions for different ways to use texture to create a more interesting look.<\/p>\n

Combine Rough and Smooth Surfaces<\/h2>\n

The most obvious place to start with texture is looking at your surfaces. If you have smooth, plain walls look at combining that with a rougher surface elsewhere in the room, perhaps a natural stone or slate fire surround. This creates a more visually interesting and tactile look.<\/p>\n

Mix Natural and Synthetic Materials<\/h2>\n

Bring depth to the look and feel of a space by using a range of different materials, particularly combining a mix of man-made and natural materials. The kitchen is a particularly great place for this as you could combine elements such as stainless steel appliances, wooden shelving and cupboards, a granite worktop and plastic chairs around a\u00a0kitchen table. These things can work together very cohesively if you think about where you use what and the colour palette it will create.<\/p>\n

Building Visual Textures<\/h2>\n

Having different levels of flooring, or block-style built-in shelving will create different shapes and places for the eyes to rest on when taking in space. Playing with light and reflection will also add to the variety of texture seen in a room, as shown with the above see-through plastic coffee table. The visual texture can be further enhanced by introducing patterns through accessories and wallpaper.<\/p>\n

Using Colour to\u00a0Create Depth<\/h2>\n

Choose one colour and use various shades and hues throughout the room to give the look depth and texture. Or try a Tetradic of Split Complimentary scheme to create different levels throughout the space with the various colours.<\/p>\n

Accessories\u00a0Make a Space Cosy<\/h2>\n

Placing some accessories around the room is a great way to add texture just by creating different visual focal points. And if you go for a range of decorative touches, from textiles like rugs<\/span>, throws and blankets, to vases and flowers pots of differing materials, such as our concrete and ceramic\u00a0pots\u00a0and reed baskets, you bring a greater variety and depth to the look and feel of the space.\u00a0Adding texture in this way can also really help to make a room feel cosier.<\/p>\n
