How to Decorate a Christmas Tree

By Darlings Of Chelsea

Decorating a Christmas tree is one of the best festive activities to get involved in. It all starts with the tree itself, but whether you choose an artificial one or a real one it’s what you do with it that counts.

The first step is the lights. Always check they work before you hang them on the tree. Once you have hung them, switch them on (and the room lights off) so you can see whether they are positioned correctly. You want to avoid gaps and unevenness.

Next you should choose your theme. Will you opt for modern Christmas decorations, traditional ones or ones with a completely different theme? For example you may only want to use baubles. Alternatively you might want to use traditional tinsel or perhaps a modern alternative such as ribbon.

Hanging Christmas tree decorations

Part of learning how to decorate a Christmas tree is learning how to hang the baubles in the right way. For example you are bound to have some fragile ones you are afraid may be broken. Make sure these take their place near the top of the tree, out of the way of children and/or pets.

Christmas DecorationsIf you have different colours or styles, make sure you mix them in so you don’t get lots the same in one area. Take your time hanging everything and keep stepping back so you can see how it looks. It is easier to look at the whole tree from a distance than it is to look at sections close up.

Another point to note is to mix different sizes of ornaments in with each other. Not all of them will be similar in size, and it will be easier to achieve a balanced tree if you mix them carefully as you go. Try to make sure decorations hanging from the bottom branches are also quite even, rather than having lots of dangling ones one side and none the other.

Given time, your tree will look stunning this year. And remember – the experience is there to be enjoyed!
