Leather reclining sofa: Comfy & Stylish

By Darlings Of Chelsea

A leather reclining sofa is one of the most luxurious pieces of furniture you can buy. With all of the practicality of a regular sofa, but the option to literally lie back and put your feet up, they’re the ideal way to relax after a long day or settle in to watch a film.

While reclining sofas used to be clunky and ungainly items, perfect for a student lounge but less well suited to an elegant living room, modern designs are as sophisticated as anything else on the market, and often indistinguishable from non-reclining sofas. You can even buy reclining chesterfield armchairs, corner sofas, and love seats.

Leather Reclining Sofas

Leather is the classic material of choice for reclining sofas. Comfortable, modern and luxurious, it’s the perfect mix of practicality and style. The only question is what kind of leather to go for. Premium and aniline leathers look fantastic, age beautifully, and are unbelievably comfortable to sink into, the one problem can be that they’re a little more fragile and prone to damage from spills, stains and children or pets.

Instead, a common choice for reclining sofas, and one particularly suited to a sofa that is highly likely to have children, dogs and even food and drink on it at one time or another, is hard-wearing and easy to clean semi-aniline leather. Just as authentic and almost as comfortable, but with a finish that tends to repel dirt and reduce the chance of scratches or tears, standard or semi-aniline leathers are practical and robust.

Leather Recliner Styles

Like any leather sofa, recliners are available in a huge range of colours. A classic is black, and a black leather recliner is almost the quintessential symbol of the den, or the home cinema. Equally, a white leather recliner goes brilliantly in modern open living spaces, especially loft apartments or those with big windows and a lot of natural light.

For a more traditional look and feel, a brown leather reclining sofa adds a touch of elegance and sophistication, especially as it ages and gains a patina and that ‘lived-in’ look.

Regardless of colour, reclining sofas are available in both mechanical and electric models. Mechanical reclining sofas work with a simple lever and cable system and don’t need to be plugged in, but they are a little less easy to use and don’t offer the same variety of positions. Electric recliners, on the other hand, work at the press of a button and can be finely adjusted into the perfect and most comfortable position.

Whatever style you go for, you can be confident that you’ll look forward to getting home at the end of a long day, sinking into your reclining sofa, and pressing the button or flipping a switch to put your feet up and lie back.
