Great Ideas for Summery Dining Decor

By Darlings Of Chelsea

A classic summer look has bright colours, cheerful tones and natural light infusing all elements, and this is especially the case when it comes to dining. Whether you are enjoying meals al fresco, or eating indoors, there is plenty you can do to make your dining area summery and light. Here are some suggestions for dining decor that you can enjoy all summer long.

Decorating ideas

Bold colours

Thanks to its Mediterranean connotations, the combination of azure blue and white is the typical summer look. Even if this isn’t the pairing of colours you’re looking for, it’s certainly the case that the use of bold, simple colours works particularly well in summer. We love this striking use of red against white, especially the polka dot tablecloth. The result is a bright and breezy dining room that is full of fun and summery charm.
table runner

Mediterranean table runner

Another classic Mediterranean touch is the table runner. The warm colours and the irregular stripes, give this particular design a rustic charm that evokes summers in Provence enjoying fabulous food and wine and plenty of sunshine.

wicker pendant shades

Rattan pendant lamps

These striking rattan lamps succeed in bringing in a certain beach-like quality into the dining room. As a natural and durable material, rattan is unbeatable for achieving that summery look, suggesting as it does exotic climes and long hot summers.

Furniture

wicker chairs

White wicker chairs

The white wicker chair has long been a staple of a summery dining aesthetic, and it’s easy to see why. Simple, elegant and perfectly comfortable, a bright white wicker chair is able to evoke an English summer garden party like nothing else. We love Vincent Sheppard’s modern take on this classic look. They are available in a choice of steel finishes and up to 28 colours, but for us it has to be the classic white wicker for that perfect summer dining chair.

extending dining table

Extending dining table

Entertaining at home is made all the more simple with an extendable dining table. Able to accommodate eight diners when fully extended, this beautiful table is part of Bethan Gray’s Noah collection for John Lewis. Made entirely of oak, the grain runs along the length of the table for a modern look that is enhanced by the X-shaped legs.

Rattan dining set

One of the key advantages of rattan garden furniture is that it can work just as well in the conservatory as it can on the patio or poolside. We like the look of this Sicilia four-seater set in cool black rattan. Summery, lightweight and easy to maintain, it’s the perfect solution for either a leisurely breakfast or an informal garden dinner party.

Tableware

tableware

Asiatic Pheasant crockery

This classic Victorian design has an enduring appeal, and actually fits in perfectly well on dining tables dressed in a more contemporary style. The combination of the pale blue patterned plates set against a Mediterranean-style table runner and a solid oak dining table works surprisingly well, with the classic crockery pattern helping to bring a touch of sophistication to the dining table.

wine glasses

White wine glass

For many, the dinner party drink of choice on a hot summer’s evening is a cool glass of white wine – for which the right type of glass is essential. Requiring a smaller, more enclosed, shape than red wine, a  dedicated white wine glass, such as those from Dartington Crystal, will help to make sure that your Riesling or Pinot Grigio is always served at its optimum temperature.
