Maximise Space with a Corner Leather Sofa

By Darlings Of Chelsea

Leather sofas are a hugely popular choice for homes of all types. They’re smart, stylish, hard-wearing and easy to keep clean, as well as being hypo-allergenic due to their reduced tendency to capture dust, pet hairs and other allergens.

That said, of course, leather comes in almost as many different varieties as fabric, and with just as many different qualities. Aniline leather, dyed only with soluble dyes, has no surface coating and therefore remains incredibly soft and supple, but also prone to damage and staining. Alternatively, surface-treated leathers can be durable, and stain-resistant, but slightly less natural looking. Both styles can of course look elegant in different settings, it’s simply a case of choosing what works best for you.

Corner Leather Sofas

Whatever style of leather sofa you go for, consider the benefits of a corner sofa. Corner sofas make great use of space, particularly in smaller living rooms, and add a lot more seating options without needing to take up loads of extra room. Placed anywhere in a room, they provide much more seating than a normal sofa without taking up much more space. However they are particularly great space-saving options when pushed into the corner of a room, maximising space within the room in a way that a sofa combined with armchairs would never be able to.

Types of corner sofa

Full corner sofas have a back that wraps around the corner and continues on the right-angled side of the sofa. These offer extra seating and create a cosy, enclosed feeling to a seating area that is great for parties or family gatherings.

Alternatively, chaise end sofas are a more standard sofa with one end extended in the style of a chaise. This provides a comfortable position where someone can sit with their feet up, or offers a bit of extra seating when you are entertaining large numbers. Many chaise end sofas also have the advantage that the chaise section can be hollow and opened up to provide storage; a huge benefit in many modern homes where storage space is at an absolute premium.

Modular corner sofas can also be a great option. These are sections of a sofa which can be pushed together to create a corner sofa, with all the benefits described above, or separated to create a sofa and one or two armchairs, depending on the layout you require. This can be perfect for switching between a party layout where people are sitting around drinking, and a layout for a family to watch television together, for example.

For those really maximising space, the perfect option is a leather corner sofa bed. This has all of the space-saving benefits of a corner sofa, while also providing the option of a comfortable double bed when guests need putting up. A storage chaise end is then the perfect place to store bedding when the bed is folded away.

Leather corner sofa styles

Picking a colour for a leather corner sofa can be tricky. Being a large piece of furniture that wraps around two angles, whatever colour you pick may dominate the room. As a result, it’s often safest to go for classic neutral colours like tan, beige, grey, black or brown. These can be brightened up with throws or cushions, but won’t be too overwhelming.

However, don’t be afraid to go for a bold colour for a corner sofa. Colours like red and blue can work brilliantly and make your corner sofa a real statement piece that becomes the centre of your design theme.

It’s also worth considering a sofa that is a mix of leather and fabric, allowing you to create a pleasant two-tone effect of both colour and texture. Usually these sofas have leather back and arms, but with fabric cushions, and are both stylish and comfortable.
