Stylish Christmas Decoration Ideas

By Darlings Of Chelsea

Even though December has yet to arrive, Christmas seems to be in the air already. Very soon we’ll all be decorating our homes ready for the festive season, so this is the ideal time to consider how to do it. If you’re tired of the same old decorations you bring out every year, here are some fresh suggestions that will enliven the festive mood this time around.

The exterior of your home is just as important as the interior

If you have a pathway leading up to your front door you can really make the most of welcoming people to your home. Why not try a display that features a traditional wreath on the front door, add some candles in a variety of holders. Frosted twigs and pine cones are also a great addition along with a small stack of wrapped presents (empty boxes of course) by the door.

Make your tree more personal

It’s easy to use matching decorations and the same baubles on your tree every year. However, if you opt for all kinds of different baubles you can create a tree that gets better and better as time goes on. Look out for hand-painted ones like the ones shown here. The designs are stunning and would surely twinkle and brighten up any Christmas tree once the lights are turned on. Aside from this, watch out for individual baubles that mean something to you. Collect them from places you visit, for example, saving them throughout the year to add to the tree during the next festive season.

Make good use of candles

Candles have become a staple part of Christmas. They can be used as a table decoration or as a cosy way of lighting any room. Just think – Christmas Eve could be spent relaxing in front of the fire, wrapping presents and enjoying the aroma of some festive candles in storm lamps. All white or cream candles create a nice look, but you can also choose candles according to the aroma they give off. Cinnamon and pine needles, anyone?

Use Christmas stockings to add to the excitement and appeal

There’s no doubt the Scandinavian look is still rather popular at this time of year. If you have children they’ll love finding one of these Scandi-chic reindeer stockings stuffed full of gifts on Christmas morning. However, you can make good use of them purely for decorative reasons as well. Hang two or three from your mantelpiece if you have one; they would also look good hanging from the bannisters.

There are lots of ways you can celebrate the festive season and introduce some new ideas into your own home décor. You don’t have to go for heavily colour-co-ordinated looks either. As you can see here, it’s perfectly possible to introduce ideas that are personal to you and your family. These can be built on over the years to create some real heirlooms to pass down too, which is yet another joy to behold at Christmas.
