Christmas Gift Guide

It is exactly six weeks to the day until Christmas! So time to start designing your Christmas day menu and drawing up the shopping for all the meals, snacks and treats and booze that you'll need over the festive period. Then there's the tree and the decorations. But perhaps the toughest thing each year is finding the perfect presents for all your nearest and dearest. And whilst there'll be some people who are easy to shop for and you know just what to get to put a smile on their face, we all have one or two people who stump us every year. So we have put together this helpful Christmas gift guide for finding the right gifts for certain people.

Gift for the Precocious Youngster:

They know it all and can even code a computer programme to explain it to you in great detail. So what do you get them? An Arduino starter kit can help them learn hot to code and create amazing things, starting them on a path to one day conquering the world (in the best possible way). And when they get to that stage, they might what to look back to see how far they've come, so why not get them a Letter To My Future Self kit, so they can record their journey. And to give them an introduction to philosophical thinking, something that can only help them grow further, how about a copy of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig.

For the Design Lover:

Choosing a present for the aesthetically inclined can seem tough if you don't share their understanding of colour theory or radial balance. You could buy them a great piece for the home - we have some great options in our new Accessories range, including a Geometric art print, an Art Deco-styled lamp and the Maisey Plantation rug. Or perhaps a book on design that they can dip into as and when for inspiration, such as Adventures in Letterpress by Brandon Mise. And if you want something a little more playful, how about a quirky geometric puzzle game.

For the Book Obsessed:

Your first thought would be a book, naturally. But this presents at least two problems: Is it the right kind of book for them? And, do they already own it? Now you could get them some Book vouchers, so they can choose their own book. Or for something a little more tangible, how a bookish piece of jewellery, clothing or home accessory? In which case, the Literary Gift Company has you covered. You might also like to consider The British Library's Adopt a Book scheme, and sponsor one of their favourite classics.

For the Beard Grower:

As beards have become more and more popular in the last few years, the number of products out there to help your hairy friend or family member keep their facial hair coifed have grown. There's a lot that goes in to taking care of a beard, so you might consider getting them Murdock's of London's Marvellous Beard and Moustache Box, with beard moisturiser, a comb and brush, trimming scissors and a towel, for keeping it looking nice. Then they might like some scented beard oil to keep it soft and give it a nice aroma. And of course they'll need a good razor for maintenance purposes, so a nice safety razor kit is the perfect investment for them.

For the Tech-Head:

They have the latest phone the day it comes out and even managed to acquire a pair of the seemingly short-lived Google glasses to test out. If you don't live in this bionic world, how do you know what would make a good gift? Well you might not know much about tech, but Wired magazine does, so a year's subscription would go down a treat. To help them keep their much-loved smartphone running whilst they're out and about, the Native Union Power Link Tassel, a chic-looking leather key chain with a portable phone charger. Or if you want to help them keep REALLY up-to-date, perhaps you could invest in one of the innovative new tech projects on Kickstarter for them.

For the Furry Friend:

And you can't forget about the pets! Ok, they're not so hard to buy for, but if you're looking for something a bit more fun than a Pedigree Christmas stocking, we've got some suggestions. Naturally for your faithful pooch we recommend one of our luxury Dog Beds, so they can relax in the kind of comfort your best friend truly deserves (and might stop them from taking up half of your bed). They come in four different sizes and an array of colours and upholstery.

For your lovely kitty cat friend how about something like the Ultimate Cat Hamper, with toys, a new bowl, things to keep them feeling snug and, of course, something cat nip infused! And if you'd like to get them their own Christmas treats to snack on (rather than them finishing off the mince pies or helping themselves to the cream that was supposed to go on the Christmas Pudding) Pets Pyjamas have some lovely treat boxes jam-packed with fun festive things for them to enjoy.
