Easy Ways to Update Your Living Space this Autumn

By Darlings Of Chelsea

As the mornings get darker, the nights draw in and summer sadly comes to an end, there comes a real need to bring some added warmth and cosiness to your living space. While the leaves start to change colour, turning incredible hues of reds, burnt oranges and yellows, you may want to make some subtle changes in your lounge, bringing in an autumn décor.

With a few small changes here and there, you can align your interior with the seasons – if you’re looking for some ideas on how to do so, here are some easy ways to update your living space this autumn.

Decorating Your Room with Cushion Covers

With Autumn around the corner, if you’re looking for a quick room refresh, the easiest way to create some autumn home décor is your cushion covers.

You can change the colour and go for something like autumn red or plump for some earthy tones, or you can change the texture. Perhaps introduce a crushed velvet pillow or faux fur cushion – sofa pillows draw the eye and can help to create a warm, cosy environment for minimal cost.

Warm Up with Throws and Blankets

As the weather starts to cool down and we contemplate turning the heating back on, is there anything better than settling down on your sofa and having a furry blanket to cuddle in to? If fur doesn’t fit into your autumn home décor, how about a chunky knitted blanket or a patterned throw?

During the day they can fit snugly on the top of your sofa, bringing a real warmth to your décor, and in the evening, you can relax into them and leave the cold outside.

Add Some Extra Home Accessories

In addition to throws and cushions, there are a few other autumn home accessories which can make a real difference. A wool rug can create a welcoming atmosphere, and depending on the colour and depth, you can choose from a bohemian style or lean towards a more rustic living room.

Adding some candles to your living space can bring an extra level of warmth to your living space, as can textured wall décors such as macrame hangings or chunky wooden picture frames.

Make a Difference with Some Natural Aesthetics

House plants have become incredibly popular in the last few years, and even more so in lockdown. There’s something about having some foliage in your living space that can make a real difference, with certain plants even purifying the air!

There is a fantastic range of indoor plants available, and they’re not all green. So, if you’re keen to ensure your autumn home décor sticks to an autumnal colour palette, look for plants like a Begonia Maculata, with red on the back of its leaves, Caladiums or perhaps a striking Calathea Triostar.

Additional Seasonal Touches

While Christmas wreaths have firmly established themselves when it comes to festive décor, have you considered an autumn door wreath or even an autumn centrepiece? With so many spectacular colours at your disposal, there is a wonderful selection of autumnal accessories available to bring that final added extra to your autumn interior. And when choosing your candles, think about the scent you would associate with this time of year, with the likes of Fig & Clove, Teakwood and Cinnamon.
