Great Ways to Add Warmth to Your Home

By Darlings Of Chelsea

In the depths of winter, we all want to feel warm and cosy as soon as we step inside the front door. Yet even with central heating, it can sometimes feel as though something is missing. The good news is you can soon rustle up that feeling of warmth and cosiness, and there are a number of ways you can do it. We’ve suggested some of the best ones here.

Add a fire or stove

A wood burner guarantees warmth, not just in a practical sense but also in a visual sense. Imagine the flames crackling throughout the day and long into the evening as the days get ever shorter. If you can’t have a stove, consider buying an electric version instead. This can be plugged in as soon as you receive it, and the better ones are able to create the look with authentic flame effects.

Pick warm shades

The colours you use will have a significant effect on how warm you feel. During the winter months, you won’t feel warm in a room with pale greens or blues on the walls. Stick with warm reds, browns and oranges instead, and consider putting together a colour palette to use in one particular room to see how they work together.

Use dark colours

We tend to hear a lot about keeping décor light and airy, but this doesn’t make you feel very warm come the winter months. Instead, you’re likely to feel chilly just by looking at white-washed walls or other light colours, no matter how pleasant they are.

When you use dark colours, however, you’ll soon realise they have a tendency to draw the room in around you. You’ll feel cosier and more settled and comfortable as a result. Remember the point above and make sure you opt for warm shades too to continue the effect.

Add a rug for warmth

The best rug you can get for the winter months is one with an incredibly deep pile. Your feet will sink into it and it will feel heavenly. Imagine sitting in a comfortable corner of the room, watching the flames flickering in the fire, appreciating the darker colour scheme and feeling your toes sinking into the rug. Now it sounds as though the whole scheme is coming together with the promise of making you feel warmer this winter.

Accessorise with soft furnishings

The Alpine style is popular at the moment, inspiring people to add wood panelling to the wall behind their beds to create an Alpine-inspired retreat last thing at night. You don’t have to go this far to create the look though – you can add soft fluffy throws in natural shades to chairs, sofas and beds. Other options include quick changes made with Alpine-styled cushions featuring natural materials and perhaps even images of stags and similar animals.

Creating warmth in your home isn’t as hard as you may have thought. With some great options provided above, you can get started creating the right look in your home very soon.
