Home Décor: Add Some Autumnal Style

By Darlings Of Chelsea

So it’s goodbye to the summer and the leaves are falling from the trees to indicate that autumn is well and truly on the way. There are plenty of ways you can introduce the new season into your home décor and we’ve suggested a few thoughts and ideas here.

Welcome guests with an autumn door display

This superb idea provides a new take on a wreath. All the typical autumnal colours you can think of can be represented here, providing a nice colourful and warming display to greet your guests when they arrive.

Add some long-lasting pumpkins to an interior display

Autumn means Halloween is on the way. However you don’t have to resort to real pumpkins to enjoy the familiarity they have to offer. Take this superb material-based pumpkin from Pier 1 Imports for example. It uses all the shades of orange you’d expect to see at this time of year. You can find similar items at many other outlets as well.

Dress up storm lamps with assorted nuts in their shells

Now this is an easy and cheap fix for a storm lamp with a candle in it. Sprinkle some assorted nuts (popular at this time of year) around the edges of each one. It’s an easy way to dress up these home accessories if you already have them.

Create autumnal-themed cushions for your sofas

This doesn’t have to be as challenging as you might think. This example shows just how creative you can be with home decorating ideas if you don’t want to buy cushions featuring a ready-made design. Here the simple outline of an autumn leaf has been cut out of a different piece of fabric and sewn onto a plain cushion. Could you do something similar? Alternatively look for Harris tweed-style cushions or throws in autumnal colours.

Put autumn vegetables to good use

Do you have a selection of gourds and pumpkins that didn’t quite reach full-size? Don’t despair, simply use a three-tier cake stand as shown in this picture and dress it with a selection of mini items that bring to mind the time of year. You could use other items instead of small pumpkins and gourds, such as ones knitted or created from fabric for example.

Apples – but not for eating

This is perhaps one of the easiest and most creative autumnal style ideas we’ve come across. It features a series of real apples, each with a space hollowed out to receive a candle. If you have candles that drip wax when they melt, the whole effect looks even better. This could also be done with a large pumpkin or two, each of which could take a variety of small candles for a large display.

As you can see there are plenty of interior design ideas that are just superb for this time of year. You don’t need to spend lots of money or do anything too complex to welcome autumn into your home either. Just follow some of these ideas for a head start.
