Create Your Own Beautiful Colour Palettes

By Darlings Of Chelsea

We often hear about choosing a colour scheme for a particular room, and there is a lot to be said for doing this. It certainly makes life easier when it comes to decorating and furnishing a particular space. But you don’t have to stick with just one colour in this situation. In fact, using a colour palette is by far the best way to get the best-finished result.

Using Colour Palettes

Colour palettes enable you to create an entire room – from floor to ceiling and everything in between – with no danger of anything clashing. Thus they give you more confidence and enable you to make a room more vibrant and appealing.

Use Of Colours in A Room - Purple and Green Colour Palette

If you think about this for a moment you’ll see the truth in it. A room that uses just one or two colours can seem very bland or overwhelming, depending on the colours that are used. However, if you use a palette of four or five complementary colours you’ll get a more coherent and appealing whole.

You can also use your chosen palette to narrow down the options for furnishing the room. Sofas can be chosen by opting for fabrics that fit with the scheme. Adding some cushions that contrast beautifully without clashing will be easy because you always have that colour palette to refer back to.

Colour Palette Generators

There are lots of colour palettes available online that have already been created by other people. However, if you want to come up with something on your own, there are lots of useful websites that can help you with a colour palette generator.

Kuler is a good example. You can create a complete colour palette using a single colour as the base. Alternatively, you can upload a picture and create a palette from that. This is particularly worthwhile if you have a picture you want to hang on the wall in a room, as a focal point for the colour scheme.

Design Seeds is a website with a good colour search feature. You can look for three colour values and then look for the schemes that fit. Alternatively, you can search for a particular theme that produces the types of colour palettes you are looking for.

Finally, there is Pictaculous, an excellent name for an irresistible website. This also works by starting with a photo. Simply upload the one you want to create a colour palette from and it will generate the palette for you.

In a sense using one of these generators to create a suitable colour palette is a great way to get additional confidence. Many people find it almost impossible to know where to begin when decorating a room. Whether it is the main colour scheme or finding suitable accessories to finish it off, it can be difficult to strike the right balance when you don’t have a palette to work from.

So whether you are looking for sofas or curtains, wallpaper or floor coverings, starting with an online colour palette is by far the best way to begin.

We would love to see what you create. Please feel free to post them on our Facebook page or email them to us so we can add them to our Pinterest.
