Time to relax: Electric Recliner Sofas

By Darlings Of Chelsea

Nothing makes it easier to relax, lie back and put your feet up than recliner sofas. Whether it’s to watch television, lie back with a book, or even have a nap, reclining sofas are the ultimate in comfort and luxury. For true ease-of-use, convenience and control, of course, there’s no better choice than an electric reclining sofa.

Reclining sofas

A two or three-seater reclining sofa provides several advantages over a normal sofa. With the ability for the back to recline, while the base raises to form a foot-stool, they allow for an incredibly comfortable and ergonomic position, especially when settling down to watch a film.

Although they can seem bulky, reclining sofas can actually save space in smaller rooms as they give you the option to put your feet up without needing a separate footstool or ottoman and, when folded back and upright, take up little or no more space than a regular sofa.

Most reclining sofas allow individual seats to recline separately, though some smaller ones may have a single reclining mechanism for the whole sofa.

How do electric recliner sofas work?

Unlike a manual reclining sofa, which relies on the user pulling a lever and generally only allows two positions, an electric reclining sofa generally works with a convenient hand-held control with buttons that progressively make the sofa more reclined or more upright. This allows the user to select a position that is exactly right for them depending on how they feel comfortable, and whether they are looking at a screen, reading a book, having a nap, or simply want to put their feet up.

A variety of sitting positions

The advantage of so much fine-adjustment is that you can choose the perfect sitting position, for example, lying almost flat, or sitting up but still with your feet raised, and you can easily tweak the position slightly if you become uncomfortable, without having to do more than just press a button. Many electric reclining sofas even come with adjustable headrests so you can raise or lower your head and find a comfortable position, for example, to look at a screen without straining your neck.

What sizes are available?

Almost any sofa size is available with reclining options. The most popular are two-seat or three-seater sofas, though most three-seaters only have two separate reclining mechanisms, with one remote on each arm.

Reclining love seats are also available, on which the whole seat reclines together with a single mechanism. Even more creative options are also possible, including having one seat of an L-shaped sofa fitted with a reclining mechanism or having a three-seat sofa that has two reclining seats and one chaise end. These sorts of options offer flexibility and ensure there is always a comfortable place to sit whatever you are doing.

What materials and style to choose

Reclining sofas are often particularly popular in leather; their necessarily slightly chunkier build and modern design lends itself particularly well to leather and, of course, leather can be exceptionally comfortable. However, that doesn’t mean you should ignore the option of fabric, as the best electric reclining sofas can be custom-made and upholstered in any fabric you choose. In addition, with mechanisms getting smaller and designs becoming more creative, reclining sofas no longer need to be bulky and inelegant but can come in a range of styles from mid-century modern to classic Chesterfield.

Whenever you’re choosing a new sofa it’s always worth considering a reclining option. While they may cost a little more, to begin with, they do provide a great deal more flexibility, and the comfort is almost unbeatable.
