Why You Should Have a Snuggle Chair

What is a snuggle chair?

A snuggle chair, also sometimes known as a cuddle chair or love seat, is a wonderfully versatile piece of furniture that is a little bigger than an armchair, but smaller than a sofa. They’re comfortable for one, and are large enough to allow you to curl up with a book or in front of the TV, but, as their name suggests, they’re even better when occupied by two people who are happy to cuddle up.

Befitting its status as a large armchair, not a small sofa, a cuddle seat usually just has one cushion, which makes it comfortable regardless of where or how you sit on it, and whether there’s one or two of you.

Why choose a snuggle chair?

The great thing about a snuggle chair is its versatility. Because it’s smaller than a sofa they are easier to move around, easier to fit in and out of buildings, easier to transport without a larger vehicle, and of course easier to arrange in a small room without dominating the space. This makes them absolutely perfect for smaller spaces like dorm rooms or studio flats, as well as bedrooms or landings, while still giving flexibility for two people to sit comfortably.

In a larger space, they are a really handy way to add flexibility and a bit of style and panache to a living room, offering something different to the usual arrangement of sofas and armchairs.

What options do you have?

Snuggle chairs, like any sofa or armchair, come in a wide range of styles, materials, colours and patterns from rich leather to soft velvet. Classic and contemporary styles are all available, so you can find something to match any design or existing furniture.

Charnwood Love Seat

One lovely feature that is available on some snuggle chairs that you wouldn’t get on a sofa is having them able to swivel. This can be great in a small room where they might frequently be re-position to face, perhaps, the TV or another chair depending on the use.

Another option, for the ultimate in luxury, and a romantic and relaxing way to watch television, is a reclining cuddle chair. With all of the comfort of a recliner, but the flexibility of a snuggle chair, it’s no wonder these are an incredibly popular option.

Of course, you can also add accessories. One great option, which makes the chair even more cosy and comfortable, is to buy a matching footstool. In a smaller space, a footstool can also act as seating when required, giving you more options for hosting guests in comfort.

Are there any disadvantages?

There aren’t many disadvantages to a snuggle chair, but of course it’s worth remembering that it takes up a good deal more space than an armchair and still only seats two people (if they’re happy to sit very close together). That may not be a problem in a lot of settings, especially where it’ll mainly be used by family or close friends, but if it’s likely to be used in more formal entertaining, you may find that it never ends up occupied by more than one person at a time, creating a bit of ‘wasted’ space.

So should I get one?

The snuggle chair option is often ignored by people thinking more about what size of sofa they need and how many armchairs they’ll get, but it’s well worth considering a snuggle chair. Whether it’s your main bit of furniture in a small room or is adding some variety to a larger set, it’s a fun and unusual option. And, of course, when you do get to snuggle up in it with someone you care about, you’ll appreciate it all the more.
