Spring Décor: How to Decorate My Home in the Spring

By Darlings Of Chelsea

After the cold, dark Winter months, Spring is a season that brings us joy, positivity, and new beginnings. From snowdrops showing the first signs of new life, to woods awash with bluebells and lighter, brighter nights, Spring tends to be the most popular time of year for people to make changes in their home. From a few small changes, such as new accessories or a lick of paint, to a total overhaul of your interior either in one room or across the house, Spring is the season of inspiration and a time to embrace new beginnings! If you’re looking for ideas, here’s our guide to Spring Décor: How to Decorate My Home in the Spring.

What are the colours of Spring?

When you take a walk on a nice Spring day, it’s hard to miss that burst of colour that just isn’t there in Winter. From green grass to vibrant daffodils, Spring is all about colour, and that gives you a wealth of options when it comes to decorating!

Here is the spring colour palette being embraced this season:

Soft yellows

From baby chicks to daffodils, soft yellow is a warm, inviting colour which can be utilised in everything from wall colour to furniture, art and accessories.

Brown

Mocha Mousse is the Pantone colour of the Year for good reason! Warm, earthy browns help connect our interiors to the great outdoors and can be introduced into your home in a myriad of ways.

Purple

Lavender may now be making an appearance in your garden and you may wish to carry that through into your home. This rich colour oozes style and looks good all year round.

Green/olive

From meadows to plants (both inside and out), green has an energy that radiates life, calm and positivity. From pastels to olives and rich greens, there’s a shade to suit all interiors.

Red

Similar to brown, a rich, earthy red can bring a real warmth and vibrancy to your space.

Muddy/Warm Pink

Spring equals blossoms and magnolia trees and is synonymous with a plethora of pink shades. Who wouldn’t want to bring the beauty of blossom into their home!

Spring décor ideas

Whether you like the idea of introducing a touch of Spring or would like to redecorate your room entirely, there are plenty of options available, and for a range of budgets. And from country cottages to contemporary apartments, and from your kitchen to your bathroom and bedroom, there’s something out there for everyone and every home.

Switch up the soft furnishings

Let’s start with some simple and cost-effective changes. Add a touch of Spring to your home through your soft furnishings – whether it’s cushions or a throw, introducing some vibrant spring colours will make a real difference to the feel of your room. Think about layers –  for example, if you have a leather sofa, some olive velvet or cotton cushions will add a stylish contrast. Equally, if you have wooden floors, a soft yellow rug will brighten your space in a celebration of the season.

Decorate your front door

While door décor used to be all about the festive season, these days you can enjoy a stylish door accessory all year round. From dried flowers to living green wreaths, you can buy a real range of garlands and foliage, or if you’re feeling creative, you can make your own!

Switch up your tableware

Can you imagine anything more lovely than sitting down to a Spring-inspired table? Some fresh flowers, a new tablecloth and napkins and a new bright, colourful jug will make a real impact for minimum spend. If you’d like to take it a little bit further, some new seat cushions will also make a real difference.

Loose sofa covers

The real advantage to a loose cover sofa is that you can change the sofa covers as and when you see fit. If you wanted to, you could have a range of sofa covers to suit each season! If you’d like to change it up this Spring, take a look at the different fabrics available and see which colour and finish fits in with your Spring-inspired aesthetic. Check out our blog to find out more about the benefits of a loose cover sofa.

Choosing seasonal colours

Colour can largely influence the aesthetic of your interior. If you like the idea of changing your wall colour to something that embodies Spring, you could either introduce a feature wall, drench your walls and ceiling in one colour or opt for wallpaper – the options are numerous! If a bright Spring colour feels a little overwhelming or intimidating, rather than completely change your interior, why not paint just one wall? Or rather than changing your wall colour, you could introduce your chosen shade through some furniture, for example a Petal footstool or an accent chair in Plush Velvet Umber.

Decorating with pastel colours

Gentle pastels align themselves beautifully with the Spring season and are a great option if you don’t want something too bright in your space. From duck egg blues to blossom pinks, introduce pastels through artwork, flowers and accessories, and if the colour works in your space and complements your existing décor, you can build it up, in your rugs, chairs and sofas. A love seat or an armchair in a soft pastel could provide a stylish contrast to your existing furniture and decor – but if you’re not sure which shade to go for, pick up some paint charts or order up to eight free swatches from Darlings to see them in person before making any decisions.

Lighten your home through decluttering

This is the time of year to Spring clean – removing anything unwanted, unused or unnecessary from your home to make way for anything new. Clutter can make your rooms feel smaller and less relaxing – the simple removal of items you haven’t used for a while (and have no intention of using again) can give you the space you need to re-evaluate your interior – maybe changing your furniture round or overhauling it completely.

Embrace natural textures

Spring is the time of year when everyone starts to enjoy the great outdoors once more – and look at ways to bring it inside. Think of incorporating natural textures into your interiors such as woven baskets, linen throws and wooden tables, all of which connect you to the outdoors, even when you’re not in it.

Decorating with botanicals

Create a calm and serene ambience in your space with the introduction of green in your interior. It could be something small such as some Eucalyptus leaves in a vase, some house plants or botanical-inspired prints, cushions or wallpaper, or a green fabric chair or sofa.

Utilising the colour green helps to create a calming aesthetic and is known as biophilic design, which strengthens the connection between the indoors and outdoors by working with plants and natural textures. Mantel décor and fireplace

Providing you with warmth and cosiness in the winter, your fireplace can be just as useful in the warmer months of the year by providing a stylish Spring focal point!

If you have a non-functioning fire, the perfect Spring mantel décor idea is a floral display which brings the season to life and creates a stunning focal point. Alternative ideas could include:

  • Cotton flowers.
  • House plants.
  • If you have picture frames, change the frames to lighter, brighter designs.

If you have a functioning fire, think about artwork, ceramic plates and vases, all of which can bring a splash of colour into your space.

Wall décor ideas

While painting is one way to spruce up your interior, there are lots of simple ways to transform your wall without lifting a paintbrush. Here’s our favourites:

  • Introduce some new artwork – floral prints and photos are great for this time of year
  • Shelving – adding some shelves means you can introduce some new accessories, perhaps new photos, candles or house plants
  • Wall sculptures – it doesn’t always have to be a picture – there’s a myriad of art that can draw the eye. Think sculptures, wall hangings – the more creative the better!

Spring is truly a wonderful time of year and bringing it into your home can help you enjoy the benefits of the season both indoors and out. It doesn’t need to be large, expensive changes – start small and build up. And enjoy!
