To create a cohesive yet visually interesting interior, there are a few ways you can colour match your armchair with the rest of the living room. The easiest way is to simply coordinate with existing colours (e.g. choose the same colour as your main sofa or perhaps match with the rug/curtains).
For something a bit different, choose a shade that’s unique but works well with the existing colour palette. For instance, if you have a charcoal grey sofa, matching it with a lighter shade of grey will maintain a coordinated look, while adding a bit more depth.
If you want to go bold, however, pair your existing furniture with an accent armchair that will become the moment! A rich colour, like emerald green or teal, adds a touch of luxury, while pastel shades, like baby blue and blush pink, work beautifully with neutral interiors. Caring for an armchair is similar to caring for a sofa - small, but regular amounts of attention will keep it looking new for years to come! The specific cleaning and maintenance methods will depend on the type of material you choose for your armchair, so please check the manufacturer’s care label for tailored guidance.
Generally, however, most fabric chairs can be vacuumed with an upholstery attachment to remove any dust or crumbs. If you have a velvet armchair, you can also brush it gently to lift the pile back up (this will restore its beautiful sheen). If you spill anything on your fabric armchair, act immediately! Carefully mop and blot the affected area with a clean cloth, without using too much vigour. Avoid using any harsh chemicals or detergents.
For a leather armchair, regular cleaning involves wiping it with a clean cloth and vacuuming in between the cushion to collect crumbs. Any spillages can be simply collected using the edge of a paper towel, whereas grease can be cleaned with a small amount of mild soapy water. A ball point pen remover is also handy in case of any ink marks. Additionally, it’s recommended to apply a leather protection cream to a new armchair, as well as two to four times a year afterwards.
